CHICMILANO / Our World

Made in Italy

From the first sketch to the finished bag, each stage brings an idea closer to something you can carry. Discover the materials, preparation and assembly behind our collection through a closer look at the making process.

Design & paper patterns

01 / CHICMILANO

Design & paper patterns

Every piece begins with decisions about silhouette, proportion and purpose. Sketches explore the handles, opening, pockets and the way a bag will be carried. Paper patterns translate these ideas into individual components, guiding the size and placement of the leather panels.

Choosing the materials

02 / CHICMILANO

Choosing the materials

Leather is considered in relation to the design: its texture, flexibility, finish and structure help define the final silhouette. Smooth and pebbled leather, suede, croco-embossed finishes and selected raffia combinations bring different characters to the collection. Linings and hardware are considered alongside them.

Cutting the components

03 / CHICMILANO

Cutting the components

The chosen material is cut into the panels and smaller pieces needed for construction. Patterns guide the outlines, with allowances for seams, folds and attachments. The shape of each component matters, because these separate pieces must come together into a balanced whole.

Preparing the leather edges

04 / CHICMILANO

Preparing the leather edges

Where a design requires it, leather edges are thinned before they are folded or joined. This preparation helps manage the thickness at seams and attachment points. Different leathers and constructions call for different adjustments, so the preparation follows the needs of the piece.

Shaping & preparing the panels

05 / CHICMILANO

Shaping & preparing the panels

Individual components are prepared for assembly. Folding, positioning and hand work help define the edges and the structure of a panel. Reinforcement and the way layers meet are considered according to the model, before the main components are brought together.

Stitching the leather

06 / CHICMILANO

Stitching the leather

Prepared panels and details are stitched into place. The route of a seam, the distance from an edge and the handling of the material all influence the result. Machine stitching and hand preparation each have their place, depending on the construction and the component.

Making the interior

07 / CHICMILANO

Making the interior

The lining and interior components are prepared and sewn for the chosen design. Pockets, openings and closures help shape how a bag works in use. This stage brings attention to the inside of the piece as well as to the exterior.

Hardware & functional details

Hardware & functional details

Closures, rings, fittings and handle attachments are brought into the construction where the design calls for them. These details influence both appearance and function. Their placement must work with the leather, the lining and the way the bag opens and carries.

Bringing the bag together

09 / CHICMILANO

Bringing the bag together

The prepared components gradually become a complete bag. Body panels, handles, straps, lining and fastenings are joined in a sequence that depends on the model. These production photographs show different styles in progress, revealing details that will sit inside or beneath the finished exterior.

The finished piece

The finished piece

The finished bag brings the original design decisions into view: shape, texture, colour and the relationship between every detail. Our burgundy leather design is shown here in an editorial setting. Explore the collection to find the proportions, materials and carrying options that suit your day.
